The Details of Designing a Home Theater

Designing a home theater can be a very fun task for many homeowners. It can also be a very daunting and irritating task for some homeowners. And sometimes, it is fun and irritating for the same homeowner at different stages. There are many factors that need to be taken into consideration when designing a home theater. Keep in mind when designing a home theater that whatever design you decide on is the design that you are likely going to keep for a long time.

One of the major considerations in a new home theater is placement. Not just placement of the furnishings within the home theater, but placement of the home theater itself. If you are building a new home, you have many options for home theater placement, but if you are retrofitting an existing home with a new theater, then your options are limited. First of all, I recommend the least amount of windows possible in your home theater. If possible, place the theater in the basement of your home against two or three of the foundational walls that are surrounded by earthen walls. Having the insulation of the earthen walls will help tremendously with the sound quality. Now that you have a room chosen, you will need help with the placement of the furnishings and theater system. If necessary, draw out a diagram of your room with scale pieces that will help you in placement of the room without actually having to move the furniture around the room.
